We did a thing!

This year has been all about life changes and adventure; and on that note, Joe and I have some exciting news…we got a trailer!!

I mentioned in my last post that we were considering moving our lives into an RV, which is why we did a “trial run” last weekend. Well, some of the best things in life happen quickly, and two days after that trip, we got our own trailer!

While this might sound abrupt, I can certainly say this was not a rash decision. We have been talking about this for a while and have done a LOT of research. After getting the trailer, I feel like we are fully in this now.

We also ended our lease and are planning to move in by mid-July…so it’s a reality indeed!

This has been Joe’s dream for a long time, so he was the one who originally brought up the idea. It has been on my bucket list too, however, I always imagined doing the trailer thing later in life. But after lots of talks and envisioning the next phase of our lives, we felt it was the right time to take the plunge.

This won’t really change my plans for my gap year – I’m still very much focused on traveling Asia as that was always my dream. I feel so blessed to have Joe who has remained unconditionally supportive. I’m planning to go back to Asia in August for a few more months, and then I’ll join Joe in the trailer and we’ll travel together in the U.S. He will get a head start in the trailer while I’m in Asia.

I’m so grateful to have a partner who has the same values and lives life to the fullest. We’ve always been aligned in our philosophies that a “home” doesn’t necessarily need to be a house. We’ve always been open to alternative homes (e.g. tiny homes), and it’s been on our shared bucket list to do this once in our lives. We realized that what we value most is flexibility and access to outdoors, and a trailer seemed to be the best solution (especially with crazy home prices in the U.S. right now).

It’s kind of hard to explain these plans because they feel so personal to us, and they might sound a bit complex and off the typical life path. I’m certainly not trying to preach about any ideal way of living. We gave this a lot of thought and came to the conclusion that this was simply right for our personal goals.

One thing I loved about Joe when I first met him was realizing he is a man who knows what he wants. From the time we started talking about the trailer to buying it was ~1 month…way less time than me executing on my gap year (which took me 3 years…). πŸ˜‰ We have supported each other’s dreams from day one, even if they take us on separate paths for a bit.

The bay area will still be our home base, and we do plan to make it back here eventually. But we are just taking things one day at a time. πŸ™‚

The content of this blog is ever-changing with our lives, and I’m excited to share the rest of my gap year journey here: from my solo Asia travels again to trailer living! While life has been crazy lately, we wouldn’t have it any other way.
