July 4th weekend in SF + random thoughts

Hello, hello! For this year’s July 4th, Joe and I had a low-key weekend right here in San Francisco. We traveled so much in June that we were so looking forward to some chill time and catching up with our friends in SF.

On Friday, we attended a party for two events: Janice’s birthday and Andrea’s going away party! Andrea and her boyfriend Nick have been in our friend group for a while now and we are so sad to see them move to Austin! The party was so much fun as all our friends came out to celebrate and bid farewell. It was so nice to catch up with everyone and also share the news about our trailer adventures. πŸ™‚

Saturday was another party with the usual suspects as Jeff and Kayla threw a barbecue in their backyard. It was a very SF summer day…with fog, wind, and everyone bundling up in their jackets. πŸ™‚ Nevertheless, we had a great time seeing everyone again in their hungover state from last night.

Joe is always the grill master at these parties…a huge blessing for a group of city people. πŸ˜‰

The next day, Joe and I planned a little movie date. We first had lunch at our favorite spot in Japan Town.

Then, we saw Lightyear at the movie theater. We absolutely loved it!! Pixar nails it every time. Getting our traditional movie-poster picture. πŸ˜‰

On actual July 4th, we kept things low-key as we did a bunch of errands to get ready for our trailer move. We did get out for a hike at our favorite trail in the Presidio. The sun finally came out after a week of clouds!

Other than that, our week was filled with lots of errands for the trailer. I’ve been selling a bunch of things on Facebook marketplace, and I’m on a selling high! I usually don’t have time to sell things when I move, so I just end up throwing things away. It’s so nice to actually have time to sell things and earn some extra cash. My favorite project has been selling our plants (which also has been the most sentimental…I love our plant babies and wish we could keep them all!). Most of these we propagated ourselves and raised from “scratch,” so it took some time to repot everything and turn our nursery into something sellable…a fun little project that Joe and I enjoyed together.

I have a few other random thoughts to share:

I got my hair done last week! I usually get balayage done at the salon once a year, which is the perfect, low-maintenance look for me. It had been 1.5 years since my last visit, and I was long overdue. I tried a new salon closer to Daly City that specialized in Asian hair, and I am SUPER happy with it!!

Second, we created an Instagram page for our cats! This has been a fun activity for me and Joe. It’s so nice to finally have a place to share all our cat photos. Also, I’m officially addicted to making Instagram reels (short videos). Feel free to follow for cut cat things. πŸ™‚

Last but not least, I want to celebrate one year on my sobriety journey! I shared more details about this at my 6-month mark, and it’s been going well since. The year honestly flew by…SO much has happened: moving apartments, quitting my job, starting my gap year, traveling to 4 different countries so far, and now the trailer move. Through it all, I truly feel that being sober has added so much to my life and enriched all these experiences.

I hope you have a wonderful week!
