Hey hey! This past weekend was a very fun and appreciated loooong weekend. My company graciously gave us Friday and Monday off, making it a full 4-days off! In my entire adult life, this was the first time I had off work and was NOT on the road traveling (for obvious reasons), and we opted for a staycation instead.
The absolute highlight of the long weekend was celebrating Joe’s birthday!! It was the first of our birthdays celebrating as a couple and I wanted to go all out and show my love for Joe by spoiling him.
First surprise, I woke up in the middle of the night to decorate Joe’s apartment with birthday decorations. I was so eager and am terrible at keeping secrets, so I surprised him 5 days before his birthday…which made it more of a surprise. 😛

Check out Joe’s reaction…he couldn’t have been more surprised!
Joe LOVES bubble tea, and so I surprised him by making a homemade batch ourselves. I followed this recipe and it couldn’t have been easier. Really makes me question all those $6 boba teas I got in the past…

The highlight of the birthday festivities was inviting a small group of friends for a social-distancing picnic at Golden Gate Park. It was so nice to see everyone again for the first time in months. We drank in the sun and caught up on our quarantine lives. I even made this homemade chocolate brownie cake which was a hit. 🙂

Other than the birthday fun, we spent plenty of time outside. The weather was high 60s and sunny all weekend which meant parks, picnics and sports galore.

One new activity we can add to our list…renting electric bikes! It was my first time trying e-bikes and it definitely makes the ride a lot easier. We rode all the way to Ocean Beach and I didn’t even break a sweat. 🙂 It was a fun way to be active and cover a lot of ground without getting too tired. We will for sure do it again!

Of course, some roller blading too. 🙂

When we weren’t at the parks, we spent a lot of time in the backyard garden. I made this DIY sign for our herb garden. 🙂

And just like that…4 days went by in a flash and it’s time to get back to the work-from-home grind. As much as I prefer being on the road for vacation, I’m grateful for the time off at home to slow down and do a bunch of stuff outside. It was also so fun to have a reason to celebrate something…Joe is the best partner in the world and we’ve had so many unforgettable memories so far. I can’t wait to see what this next year brings!
