Underrated East bay hike + Girl’s night reunion at Matt’s birthday

Happy Chinese New Year!! I am missing my family on this special holiday, and send my love to those who cannot see their family due to this terrible virus.

After Mexico, getting back into work and “real life” wasn’t too difficult since we were only gone for 5 days. And yet…on Friday, a nasty fever hit me and I was bed-ridden all day. I have a bad streak of getting ill after coming back from trips so here was another case of the post-travel flu!

After a full day of lying in bed watching re-runs of How I Met Your Mother, my fever luckily died down on Saturday and I was feeling restless. I mustered up some energy to join Joe and three of his close friends for a hike in East Bay.

We went to Reinhardt Redwood Regional Park – I’ve done just about every hike in North and South SF, but this was my first time stepping foot in east bay. Joe and I didn’t have high expectations but boy did it blow us away! The scenery was so diverse from open views on the sunny hill to deep in the mossy forest where you stare up at the redwood trees. It was one of our favorite hikes in the Bay Area yet.

Joe’s friends were super awesome – they were so welcoming and I was happy to spend a few hours getting to know his friends on a deeper level. 🙂

In the evening, we headed back to SF and got ready for a night out. It was Matt’s 30th birthday and he held a party at a bar with our entire girl crew and our plus ones.

I hadn’t seen the girls in MONTHS so there was a lot of anticipation to reunite. It ended up being one of the funnest nights I’ve had in a long time. It felt SO good to see the girls and catch up together, and it reminded me just how much this fun-loving group of girls mean to me. Even though we don’t see each other too often like my early SF days, I’m grateful for when we do. ❤

And to top it off, it was the girl’s first time meeting Joe! There was a lot of excitement around this as they’ve seen him all over my social media, and they finally got to meet him in the flesh. I’ve talked about these girls so much to Joe and so it was exciting to finally meet ‘n greet.

Joe did AMAZING with meeting everyone. The girls and their boyfriends all loved him as he fit right into our fun, boozy, caring crew. And I, of course, was happy to finally have a partner in this massive group of couple friends… 😉 (I’ve always been the wild baby of the group and was the last to say goodbye to single-hood, ha).

Such a fun night! We stayed out until 2am which definitely hurt the next morning. Joe and I spent the whole day recovering at his apartment.

I wanted to celebrate Chinese New Year despite being hungover, so I got dim sum delivered to our door 😉 small wins.

A pretty eventful week back after Mexico! I’m looking forward to spending this week resting my body after all the partying and getting sick.

I hope you have a wonderful week, my friends! ❤
