The first week of 2022 is a wrap! I hope you all had a smooth time getting back into “real” life again after the holidays. I returned to San Francisco on Thursday, and it sure feels good to be back again. It was a very sweet reunion with Joe and the kitties; we were apart for 3.5 weeks and I missed them like crazy! Ben here wouldn’t leave my side all weekend and I was not complaining.

After catching up around the apartment and the usual post-trip errands, we entered the weekend which was filled with getting out into the city. After 3 weeks of staying indoors in New York, I was itching to get outside and explore. Winter is one of the best times in San Francisco because the weather is basically the same cool climate as the rest of the year, which felt like a blessing after experiencing the east coast.
On Saturday, Joe and I did a morning hike at Bernal Heights. SF is filled with parks with short hikes up to the highest points of the city, and this was one of them. I think Bernal Heights had one of the best views as you could see all across SF and even out to east bay.

The grass and trees were SO green after all the rain over the holidays – we really needed it. It was a gorgeous sight as it’s rare to see SF so lush and green.

After the hike, we walked to the Mission which is the adjacent neighborhood to Bernal Heights. We had a casual taco lunch and it hit the spot.

In the evening, I headed to Rene’s apartment for dinner. We had so much to catch up on as we hadn’t seen each other since before the holidays. It was so nice to have some girl time and get excited for the year ahead. I also dropped off some new plant propagations to Rene, and I couldn’t believe how big one of my older propagation got! It’s always gratifying to give away plants.

Sunday was another beautiful day. Joe and I picked up some coffee and walked to Hayes Valley in the morning to get our steps in and do some shopping.

We went to Arlequin Cafe for lunch, one of my favorite casual cafes in the SF. There is a gorgeous green patio in the back which is a hidden gem in the city. On a warm day, it’s the perfect spot to grab a coffee and read a book. I used to come here all the time to study for my actuarial exams (remember when that was a thing?!).

Some ice cream at Salt & Straw in the afternoon…our favorite spot in the city.

The rest of the weekend was spent relaxing around the apartment. Joe and I got into playing our favorite Nintendo 64 games from childhood…I never play video games as an adult, but the nostalgia got to me and I got sucked into playing Yoshi Story and Super Mario 64.

I hope you have a wonderful week ahead!
