Real life stuff since we last talked + weeks 4-7 of half marathon training

Hey, hey, hey!

So it’s been a loooong while since I’ve talked about “real life” on this blog. I realized I’ve been highlighting all my travels and fun activities these past few weeks, but in between it all, real life has been kind of a roller coaster…

There have been some changes in my life these past few weeks, and I have a feeling it’s only going to continue changing more this year. After my PCH roadtrip a few weeks ago, I basically crawled into an antisocial hole figuring out all this life stuff. I’m so glad I had some amazing people to talk things through with…in any case I actually have a really good feeling about things ahead; if there’s one thing I’ve learned it’s that you can’t plan life and I’m just embracing all the craziness coming up, i.e. being on the road again for almost all of August!

So with that said, this past week was definitely on the chill side. I did meet up with Karan on Thursday to go for a swim in the bay. We both live walking distance from the ocean and I’m so surprised it’s taken us this long to finally dive in for some laps. It was so much fun and a fantastic cross-training workout – he was so brave to not wear a wet suit! I LOVE open water swimming infinitely better than a pool, so will for sure be back.

On the running front…I can’t believe the SF half marathon is already next weekend! Overall, physically, I pretty much feel like I’ve done the bare minimum to make it to the start line, ha. This definitely won’t be a PR, or even close to it. But I really made an effort to do every long run these past few weeks despite all my travelling, and I’m really happy with how they went so I’m feeling confident enough! But even more importantly, mentally, I’m just super excited – this is my first race of 2018 so I have a lot of pent up racing energy and am counting down the days ’til this thang. 🙂

One fun surprise from the weekend was Phil visited SF! He recently quit his job (we are BFFs from work and my NYC days) and so he had a week off and came to visit. It was sooo nice to see Phil, his girlfriend, and some of his U Michigan friends again (I think I’ve met over 10 friends through Phil between NY and SF!). We hung out at Dolores park, grabbed drinks and dinner, and Phil and I even got one last lunch this afternoon. I’m so beyond happy for him and his new job, but I’m not gonna lie, I got kind of emotional feeling like this was an “end of an era.” We’ve been super close since day one of training as interns in college, so seeing him leave the firm is definitely bittersweet! But nevertheless, between our shared visits to SF and NYC and all our mutual friends, I know we’ll remain close. ❤

On Sunday, Whitney/Princess and I got brunch at Kitchen Story in the Mission – super delish, and you can order mimosas while waiting in line so that was a no-brainer for us :). The three of us have all been travelling around this summer so it had been a few weeks since we caught up. We all had hilarious and fun stories to share from it all; being with them is always a treat.
