Yesterday I had 20 miles on the plan – the longest run of the entire cycle. I knew this one was super important since I’m two weeks away from CIM and really needed to finish this as a confident boost.
Even though the pressure was on, the entire time I thought: I’m gonna miss this SO much. Long runs on Saturdays when I get to explore SF, early morning runs when I wake up in pitch darkness and see the sun rise, all the life lessons I’ve learned each week, even the weird-tasting protein shakes I drink afterwards…I’m really going to miss everything about marathon training.
And for that, I was so unbelievably grateful the entire 20 miles. Grateful I got to be on my favorite trail one last time. Grateful for the beautiful sunny weather that finally hit SF after a week of rain. Grateful for having time to unplug and notice things around me. All of this carried me through the 20 miles. I felt so amazingly present.
So here we are, it’s taper time. And instead of feeling ready to relax, I secretly wish training could go on a bit longer. That spark inside of me was just recently lit where I finally got excited about this race and have actually been looking forward to training, and now there’s only two weeks left of it.
I know this will make me even more grateful for every single mile these remaining days.
Week 11 of marathon training:
Monday: 5 miles
Tuesday: 8 miles
Wednesday: REST
Thursday: 4 miles
Friday: REST
Saturday: 20 miles
Sunday: REST
Total = 37 miles!!
Woohoo! Enjoy the taper!
