What’s up blog! Get ready for my usual weekend tangents:
Friday
My firm held our annual college road trip event on Friday. There were fun booths for different colleges and everyone wore gear from their alma maters. This is by far one of my favorite events, since it’s the one day a year we throw out #class and each booth reps the school’s favorite drinks and food…this picture summarizes it all.
Saturday
This was one of those days you wake up with absolutely no plans, but end up with a super packed day of fun things 🙂
I slept in and then made my way to the office to hit the books. I definitely get restless studying in my tiny apartment, so a change in scenery is always nice.
Afterwards, Chuck and I spontaneously decided to hang out in Central Park! We go way back to college. We hadn’t seen each other in months, but it was so easy to pick off where we left off ❤
Then, Chuck invited me over to her place in Hamilton Heights for dinner. I’m so glad she dragged me uptown. She cooked an amazing pasta dinner, and I was so impressed with her real adult apartment (unlike mine where I only own one fork and one bowl…), as well as her cooking skills 😉
It was so so nice to be with Chuck again. I make an effort to surround myself with #strongindependentwomen, and Chuck completely exemplifies that – she has the most sense of self than anyone I know, and being with her always inspires me. We had such a blast laughing over everything in life, playing with her cat, and getting ready for the night.
Since I was already uptown, we decided to go to Richard’s apartment for a little party he was throwing. Boy did it remind me of college – the jungle juice, beer pong table, playlist…some things just don’t change.
It was incredibly heart warming to be together with my #dayonebffs again (us 3 lived on the same floor freshmen and sophomore year!). Richard and I actually met day one of freshman year, and it was friends at first sight. Chuck and I took a little while longer to become friends – flashback to when she would leave a bowl of candy outside her dorm, and I would come by for that, leading the way to our friendship 😛
Sunday
Sunday started off with some light studying.
Then, I was starting to have some anxious thoughts about life…(this always happens around my exam), and so I dropped everything and took off for my long run.Long runs are definitely my favorite run of the week. Hours of no distractions and being able to work through thoughts is so precious to me, and I instantly felt better once my feet got moving. I think just physically moving does wonders for anxiety-prone people like myself, and when the endorphins kick in, the emotions go away, and I can think through life things more objectively.
The run was overall very strong. 8 miles total! I had been meaning to check out Roosevelt’s Island for the longest time as a possible long run route, and man did it EXCEED my expectations! The island is PERFECT for a long run – it’s its own little world with the beautiful waterfront, trails, residential areas, cool modern sculptures, even a grocery store I stopped in to buy some H2O.
Getting to it was surprisingly easy as well. There’s a short pedestrian bridge that I actually got stopped on for a few minutes because they were filming Blue Bloods (anyone hear of the show? The camera-men themselves said it isn’t very good 😛 )
Afterwards, I was pretty beat and had a lazy afternoon in my apartment: watching Parks and Rec, catching up with Christine over the phone, napping. Afterwards, I wanted to enjoy the beautiful weather so I took a stroll around the neigh and treated myself to Sweet Jane’s – THE BEST ice cream in town. The beyond-friendly front counter worker recommended this awesome combo: cookies and cream + peanut butter fudge #yum
Recently, I’ve been having a love-hate relationship with Astoria and living alone…some days I just feel so friggin lonely and far from my friends and just wish I had my old life back in Tribeca. But days like today make me realize just how much at home I feel here in Astoria. Simple things like taking a walk on uncrowded, suburban-feeling streets are so precious and impossible to find in Manhattan. This lovely evening made me realize that I actually wouldn’t trade this for my old life. There are definitely pros and cons to living alone, but at least for a brief evening, I definitely felt at peace.
Hope you all have a great week!!!!
