Join me for a “typical” weekend

Hi friends! The temperatures have shot up to the 80s here in North Carolina, and I am loving the early summer vibes. The warm weather has instantly brightened my mood as it’s officially the season of living all day in shorts and flip flops.

It’s been a while since I’ve done a weekend recap here on the blog — weekend recaps were a staple on this blog for many years — so I thought I’d bring you along a low-key, relaxing, and productive weekend here in North Carolina. Lately, my weekends have been filled with a lot of time at home relaxing after the busy work week, and this past weekend was close to what a “typical” one looks like these days. šŸ™‚

On Saturday, I started my day with coffee and half of an everything bagel with cream cheese.

Then, I headed right out the door for my morning walk. I’ve been loving my morning walks lately as it’s the best time to get outside before it gets too hot. There’s a 1.5-mile loop I like to do in my neighborhood once before work and once after, which is how I get in my steps.

The rest of the morning was a productive one. Saturday mornings are typically when I catch up on house stuff, starting off with watering the indoor plants. Over a few short months, we’ve acquired a LOT of plants, and it’s quite the task to water them all. This time, it took me two hours. šŸ˜›

One of my propagations was ready for potting! It’s so satisfying seeing the roots.

A mid-morning snack: grapes and blackberries. I don’t know if it’s the time of year, but all the fruit we’ve been buying has been so sweet.

Then, I went on to deep cleaning the house, which I do once a week. I vacuum every day (yes, everyday), a habit I picked up living in San Francisco when we had a very small apartment — those with cats know why! Now with our house, I still vacuum every day, and I’ll deep clean the bathrooms, kitchen, and bedrooms on the weekends.

For lunch, Joe and I picked up Jason’s Deli and had a picnic in our backyard. We recently bought patio furniture, and it has been a game-changer for our backyard. We now find every reason to eat meals outside and enjoy the beautiful garden that Joe has been working on.

The latest addition to the garden: a fountain!

The afternoon was a relaxing one. I took a nap, played piano, watched tv, and picked up groceries. Then in the evening, Joe and I decided to go out for dinner. I was craving sushi, and we found a yummy spot in a nearby town. The food was SO good and it definitely satisfied my craving. It was so fun to get out and enjoy a nice meal together.

After dinner, we walked around the quaint downtown area. Everyone was out and about just like summer vibes. I fell in love with this area from this visit – I feel like this is where a “perfect” childhood in a movie would take place.

Of course, we had to pick up ice cream. Joe and I shared a scoop of chocolate brookie (brownie + cookie). I’m drooling looking at this cup – it was so memorable.

The next day, I started off the morning with peanut butter oatmeal, coffee, and a morning walk. šŸ™‚

Sunday was a lazy one as I was a couch potato for most of it. I had grand plans to go to Target, but I did an Amazon order instead.

We had a grill out for dinner later in the evening. Joe bought a propane grill last week, and we have definitely been putting it to use. Flashback to when we lived in an RV for 6 months and made most of our meals using our charcoal grill. Joe is the grill master, and it’s been really nice to make some of our favorite recipes again. Dinner was grilled portobello mushroom burgers and corn. Divine.

Be well, my friends!
