Vir Das comedy show + football Sunday

Hello, hello! Last week was a productive one. Wedding planning has been taking up a lot of my energy, but it’s been very energizing and I’m happy to see all the progress.

By the time the weekend hit, I was ready to unwind with some activities — I filled the days with workouts, seeing friends, and wedding stuff. 🙂

Saturday started off with a workout from Sydney Cumming’s YouTube channel — surprise, surprise. Readers here will know I’ve been doing her workouts on repeat over the last few months. I’m really happy with the progress I’ve made with my strength, but I am starting to feel my workouts are repetitive as there are only so many things you can do with dumbells. I’m looking into other types of workouts to switch things up.

A few months ago, I mentioned I was experimenting with protein supplements, including whey and collagen. I finally landed on pea protein as my post-workout choice. I was dealing with acne issues last fall, so I think the whey and collagen contributed (although I am not 100% sure, as I was also switching skin products last year). My skin has since improved after switching to pea protein, so that’s certainly reason enough to stick with it! The only downside is there is a distinct taste to pea protein that I don’t love, and I’ve found that smoothies help mask the taste.

Later on, Joe and I drove down to San Jose for a tasting for a potential wedding caterer! This place specialized in Chinese fusion – the food was amazing, and we had a fun time with it. I’m really glad we decided to have a Bay Area wedding which has made coordinating pretty easy. Overall, I loved this option, but we’ll probably interview a few more caterers before deciding. 🙂

Joe and I have a good rhythm with planning. I personally enjoy researching, chatting with vendors, organizing, and coordinating, while Joe is better at being decisive and helping us narrow things down. I truly feel like we’re planning our big day together and that it will be true to both of us. 🙂

In the evening, we had something special planned…a comedy show for Vir Das! I discovered Vir Das when I worked at a hostel in India during my gap year in 2022. I have fond memories of watching his Netflix specials in the hostel lounge with the other guests, and I remember really loving his material. He is very popular in India, and I was super excited to see him tour in San Francisco. I’m glad Joe was down too as we both enjoyed his set. Vir Das is unique from other comedians in that he’s a great storyteller and he’s clever with his word choice. He’s also not afraid to be bold with his cultural and political commentary. What a special experience!!

The next morning, I hung out with the cats, cleaned the apartment, and did groceries. I can finally wear my ring after 3 long weeks of waiting for it to be resized. Can you tell I’m excited to show it off? 😉

I also made lunch and meal prepped for the week. My latest obsession is chocolate pudding made out of silken tofu. I just blend tofu, melted chocolate chips, and cocoa powder, and it turns into a luscious healthy(ish) pudding. There is a mild soy taste from the tofu, but I personally like it. I’ll be making this on repeat. 🙂

In the afternoon, Joe and I headed to a sports bar to watch the football game (semi-finals before the Super Bowl). San Francisco’s team, the 49ers, were playing which was a big deal around the city. I’m not a huge football fan, but I wanted to be part of the SF pride. It was also an excuse to see our friend group for the first time since the holidays. It was so lovely seeing them as everyone was so excited about our engagement!

As for this week, I’m hoping to keep the productive energy and finalize some key wedding decisions. Thanks for stopping by, and I hope you have a great rest of the week!

  1. The day I got my ring I was so happy! Much happier than on the wedding day itself. Looking forward to seeing what wedding catering you go for, I’m sure it will be really interesting and delicious as you two have a wide taste in cuisines and seem to really enjoy your food, like me 😋!

    1. Absolutely, food is such an important part of an event and an area we are willing to splurge on 😉. Curious to hear about your wedding day, perhaps that’s a story for another time.

      1. Wedding day was fine except I really don’t like being the centre of attention.. and both David and I were just wanting to get through the day and fast forward to the honeymoon just the two of us!
