The perfect storm: buying a home + preparing for baby + summer highlights

I guess I’ll dive right in…we bought a home!!!

As you can imagine, this has been a huge event for us over the last few months…searching for and purchasing our home. I’ve mentioned a “home project” in some of my recent posts, and I’m happy I can finally share about it. When we started looking over the summer, I fully expected it to take a while and thought we’d maybe move sometime next year. When we saw this home, Joe and I immediately knew it was the one. The timing couldnโ€™t have worked better as we got to move in before the baby! Moving twice in one year is loads of fun… ๐Ÿ™‚

I will probably get some heat for saying this, but the home-buying process went very smoothly for us. We had a rockstar real estate agent who helped us every step of the way and helped us buy our dream home. Having a smooth home-buying process allowed us to move in with 100% positive vibes. Since we moved in, I literally wake up everyday feeling that giddy โ€œpinch meโ€ feeling. I still cannot believe we own this beautiful home!

Sadly, we could not bring our pet frog to the new home. It will take some time to set up the new pond, and there was nowhere to keep him in the meantime (especially since frogs need specific water conditions). He spent plenty of time outside of our pond, and we felt good about him returning to the wild.

The other major thing taking up our time has been preparing for the baby. I’m 8 months pregnant now and definitely feeling the urgency to get everything together. One thing that’s helped me prepare has been taking classes at the hospital. Some of our parent friends recommended the classes, and I cannot say enough positive things. So far, Joe and I have taken Labor and Delivery, Breastfeeding 101, and Taking Home Baby classes. They have been tremendously helpful in making us feel more prepared.

One thing no one tells you about having a baby is the loads of administrative work! I feel like I’m constantly on the phone with my health insurance, doctors, daycare, HR at work, and more. Add on buying a home, and it truly was the perfect storm of paperwork. I love to organize things, but I admit I was overwhelmed some days.

Despite being busy with life events, we did have a nice summer in North Carolina. As I looked through pictures on my phone, I smiled seeing all the relaxing quality time that Joe and I had right here at home. After living in the Bay Area where summers were cold and foggy, I just loved being back on the east coast where it was classic hot summer that I grew up with. ๐Ÿ™‚

Lots of walking and hiking in the area. Walking has been my best friend while pregnant. Given my size now, Iโ€™m not doing formal workouts anymore, but I try to carve out time for walking everyday and staying active with chores around the house.

Summer ice cream runs are the best.

Joe grilled for us several times a week. Barbecues outside on the patio was a core memory from our rental home. Our time living there was short, but we made the most of it. To be honest, I will not miss our rental home at all. I will spare you all the headaches we had to deal with. ๐Ÿ˜›

A recent obsession: mint tea. We grew spearmint and peppermint in the garden, and this was a great way to use it. I’ve also had heartburn and slower digestion during my third trimester (there isn’t much room in my torso anymore ๐Ÿ˜‰ ) – and mint tea has been super helpful.

Lastly, our garden at the rental home thrived over the summer – just in time for us to move! Here is a vase of fresh-cut flower from the garden. So pretty.

Thank you for reading along today, friends!
