Rainy indoor weekend + SF Civic Symphony concert

Hi friends! How are you? I’m coming out of a rejuvenating weekend filled with lots of chill time as well as new activities. It’s been a rainy winter in San Francisco, so our weekend was centered around finding indoor activities to keep us entertained.

Saturday: lazy rainy day

My weekend started out with an at-home workout with Sydney Cummings — if you’ve been following my blog, you’ll know I’ve been LOVING Sydney’s workouts since last year. I did a lower-body workout on Saturday to balance out some upper-body work from earlier in the week.

The morning was productive and filled with wedding research. I’m really enjoying wedding planning so far. The first week after we got engaged was a bit stressful when I realized everything we had to plan, but as we’ve tackled things one by one, it’s felt much more manageable. I feel like I’m now having fun with the process and cannot wait for the big day!

The biggest accomplishment was that we booked our wedding venue last week!! I know, I’m crazy. (We just got engaged 3 weeks ago). I’m so excited to finally have a date set as this feels like a huge milestone in the process. 🙂

After a productive morning in front of my laptop, we went out for lunch at Yummy Yummy in the Inner Sunset. We were both craving our favorite Vietnamese spot in the city and decided to make the trek. The food was amazing as usual.

We originally had plans to go to Golden Gate Park, but after approximately 2.4 seconds of walking outside after lunch, we decided to head home. The rain was coming down, and we both realized it was going to be an indoor day. This was just what I needed as I had a pretty busy week at work and needed some time to decompress. The rest of the day was filled with watching movies, VR, and snuggling with the cats. 🙂

Sunday: pocket of sun + Hayes Valley + SF Civic Symphony

The next morning, we saw a small pocket of blue sky across the city. Joe thought to drive there to get some fresh air after our indoor day yesterday. So we drove to Lands End, and low and behold, there was a pocket of sun! We walked along the coast and took in the beautiful views. Even though this morning walk was brief, the sun did wonders for my mood after several days of rain.

After eating lunch at home, we headed to the Hayes Valley neighborhood for some errands. I had to get my Warby Parker sunglasses fitted at the local branch here, and we grabbed some coffee and window-shopped as well.

From there, we walked to the highlight of the weekend: a concert for the San Francisco Civic Symphony. This was a symphony of amateur musicians, and they threw a free concert for the community. This event caught my eye as the highlight of the program was Rhapsody in Blue, one of my all-time favorite pieces.

The event took place at Herbst Theater which is in the Opera Plaza of San Francisco. This was both of our first times in one of the major performance arts theaters in SF, and it was SUPER nice! The theater was large and ornate — it made me want to go to more of these performance arts events in SF as that’s one activity I’ve been neglecting while living here.

The symphony was pretty decent. They played a diverse mix of heavy Russian to contemporary American pieces. The highlight of the show was Rhapsody in Blue — it featured a professional pianist who elevated the amateur symphony. Hearing this masterpiece in this large theater was very inspiring. I’m really glad we ventured out for this event — it was a new activity for us, and definitely worth it.

After our afternoon adventure, we headed back home. For dinner, I met up with Rene in our neighborhood (she lives closeby). I hadn’t seen Rene since before the holidays, and we had SO much to catch up on around our weddings. Rene is getting married in May, and we were both chatterboxes sharing notes about our planning. It was so helpful to bounce ideas off each other and get excited for the months ahead. 🙂
