Sunny weekend recap: Dolores Park + farmer’s market + outdoor workouts

I cannot believe we are already in July…this summer is going too fast!

July 4th is an interesting time in San Francisco as the city turns into a mini-ghost town (many people leave the city to escape the summer glooms). This year, we got lucky as it was absolutely G-O-R-G-E-O-U-S in SF over July 4th weekend (sunny and 70s), and Joe and I wanted nothing more than to stay here and take advantage of the uncrowded city.

Thank you for being here today, and to my American friends, I hope you have a wonderful July 4th holiday! πŸ™‚

Friday: dinner date

Our weekend started off with eating out on Friday. One of our favorite restaurants in our neighborhood is Parada 22 – a small restaurant serving Puerto Rican food. We’ve come here several times and always order the mofongo which is seriously delicious! It was the perfect, low-key activity to switch into weekend mode.

Saturday: yoga class + Dolores Park + White Lotus

The next morning, I woke up feeling energized and wanted to get outside right away. I started off the day with a yoga class in NoPa which was a 30-minute walk from my apartment. I love rotating between different studios through Class Pass, and sometimes, I’ll pick studios further away for the added walk. The class was a fast-paced power yoga class and got me sweating.

Joe and I ate lunch at home and then drove to the Mission for the day’s activity. We picked up coffee and snacks and plopped a picnic blanket down at Dolores Park. On a day like this, usually the park would be packed to the brim – but with a lot of residents out of town, it was refreshing to enjoy the open space. I love Dolores Park because it has a more lively vibe than other parks in the city. The palm trees plus warmer temps in the Mission made the park feel like one big summer party.

After the park, we headed home and started White Lotus on HBO (read: binging). I watched the entire series last Christmas, and ever since I’ve been telling Joe we should watch it together. We finally started it, and Joe instantly got hooked too. We ended up finishing the first season over the weekend. πŸ™‚

Sunday: outdoor workout + Sunset stroll

The next morning, I tried something new. I was in the mood for a HIIT workout, but I didn’t want to be couped up at home like usual. Most of my exercise is through YouTube home workouts which is one habit that carried over from the pandemic. I decided to walk 5 minutes to the track at Golden Gate Park and do my HIIT workout there. It was a small change, but I enjoyed it immensely! I loved having space to spread out as our apartment is very small. The fresh air lifted my mood and made my workout much more enjoyable. I will definitely try to bring my home workouts outdoors again!

I got home, and Joe and I did some errands around the apartment, including mounting a coat rack in the hallway. This was our last major furniture item for the apartment, and it’s great to feel a sense of completeness in the apartment.

After our home errands, Joe and I headed to the Sunset for the day’s activity. We didn’t have an agenda and decided to see where the day would take us.

First, a haircut for Joe. Salons in our neighborhood were double the price compared to the ones in the Sunset, so it was a no-brainer.

Then, we passed by a farmer’s market and decided to check it out. There were a lot of good-quality produce in-season, and we picked up some strawberries and white peaches.

Then, some lunch at Crepevine. This was the third weekend in a row we came here! We cannot get enough. There is so much good food in the Sunset, and I’m sure we will eventually branch out. πŸ˜‰

After lunch, we picked up some donuts at Donut World. Again, we cannot get enough. This was our second time picking up donuts here over the weekend.

The evening ended with White Lotus, driving to Ocean Beach for a quick stroll, practicing piano, and cooking dinner at home. I’m excited for the week ahead as both Joe and I have Tuesday off from work for July 4th. I’m all about these summer holidays. πŸ™‚
